What to Wear

Think elevated or effortlessly casual. The key is choosing something that feels like you, just a little more refined. Your outfits should coordinate with each other and with your shoot location, creating a look that feels cohesive and intentional without being overly matched.

I always recommend professional hair and makeup, it photographs beautifully and helps you feel confident and polished in front of the camera. And don’t forget your nails! Clean, neutral, or freshly done nails make such a difference in close-up shots of hands, rings, and those sweet in-between moments.

Lighting & Expectations

we dream of a specific style for our wedding day but many key factors go into actually creating the vision you like.

Lets review notes on lighting, bridal spaces, veils

View of a historic building called Spencer House, partially obscured by green bushes in the foreground, with a blue sky and some clouds in the background.
Two men in suits walking out of a green outdoor building with a porch, surrounded by green grass and trees.

If you’re dreaming of bright, airy getting-ready photos, the space you choose plays a big role in bringing that vision to life. A clean room with natural light, large windows, and tones that complement your mood board will photograph beautifully.

Dark or windowless spaces naturally create a moodier look — the same goes for your venue choice.

We also recommend keeping your bridal space free of extra items such as bags, clothing, and personal belongings. A clean, uncluttered background makes a beautiful difference in your final images.

A woman with long red hair and tattoos on her arm is sitting during a haircut, while a hairstylist with dark hair is working on her hair near a window.

Groom Photos

A group of seven men wearing suits and sneakers is standing in front of a glass window, with a dog sitting on a mat in front of them.

For couples who want extra attention on special groom moments, we recommend considering a second shooter. Our main photographer is happy to capture both bride and groom as long as the bridal party isn’t more than 10 minutes apart. If the parties are farther apart, a second shooter will be required during those hours to ensure every meaningful moment is beautifully documented. You’re also welcome to travel to the photographer if that works better for your timeline or vision.

  • Flat Lays

We Absolutely love flat lays

Silver jewelry including a ring, necklace, and bracelet displayed on a gray box, a green glass bowl, and green decorative moss balls, all on a white fabric surface.

Details Matter

Lay flats are thoughtfully styled images of your details — rings, shoes, stationery, florals, and meaningful personal items.

Send over any inspiration you love, and we’ll provide a simple checklist of items to have ready on the day. We also bring a curated collection of beautiful backdrops, styling mats, and props to elevate your details and keep everything cohesive.

To create these images, we simply need the details gathered in one place and a bit of dedicated time built into your timeline — it makes all the difference.

Examples of items

  • Wedding rings

  • Jewelry (earrings, bracelet, watch, etc.)

  • Perfume or cologne

  • Loose florals or floral clippings

  • Shoes

  • Invitation suite / stationery

  • Heirlooms or sentimental items

  • Any meaningful personal details

First Look

How a First Look Fits Into Your Timeline

If you choose to do a first look, it typically happens after you’re fully ready — hair, makeup, florals, and attire complete.

A common flow looks like this:

  • Getting ready photos

  • First look

  • Couple portraits

  • Wedding party photos

  • Ceremony

  • Family photos + cocktail hour

This approach allows us to capture the majority of portraits earlier in the day, giving you more freedom and less rushing later on.

What is a First Look?

A first look is a private moment where you and your partner see each other for the first time before the ceremony. It’s usually done in a quiet, intentional spot with just the two of you (and me, discreetly capturing it from a distance).

There’s no right or wrong way to do a first look, it’s simply another option for how you experience your day.

Why Couples Love First Looks

First looks are popular for a reason, and not just for photos.

• A calm, intimate moment together before the day unfolds
• Real, emotional reactions without an audience
• Less pressure than seeing each other at the aisle
• More time together overall on your wedding day
• A relaxed photo experience when hair, makeup, and outfits are fresh
• More flexibility in your timeline, often allowing you to enjoy cocktail hour with guests

Many couples say it ends up being one of their favourite moments of the entire day.

The

Ceremony

Your ceremony is the heart of your wedding day, and thoughtful planning helps it flow beautifully. We’ll work with you to understand the ceremony timeline, vow structure, and any cultural or religious moments you’d like intentionally documented. Sharing these details ahead of time allows us to capture everything seamlessly and respectfully.

Family Photos

To ensure we capture every cherished moment with your loved ones, we kindly ask for a list of important family members ahead of time, parents, grandparents, siblings, and anyone special you’d like included. Please let us know which groups should be photographed together so we can plan a seamless, stress-free session.

On your wedding day, we’ll guide everyone through the portraits with ease and care. Please note that we cannot guarantee images if family members are absent or if requests are made spontaneously, so thoughtful planning ensures your most treasured memories are beautifully captured.

Newlywed Portraits

Couple portraits are an intentional moment within your wedding day to create timeless, artful imagery. With gentle direction and plenty of room to move naturally together, we’ll capture photographs that feel refined, emotive, and true to your story.

Weather

As much as we hope for clear skies, nature has its own plans. We kindly recommend having a thoughtful backup plan in place for your wedding photos—whether that means an indoor option, a covered outdoor space, or a secondary location. This includes preparation for rain, snow, wind, or unexpected weather shifts.

If light rain does appear, we’re always happy to work with it using umbrellas, covered areas, or embracing it, And for what it’s worth, cloudy days are actually a photographer’s dream, offering soft, even light that photographs beautifully, so there’s no need to worry if it’s not 30 degrees and sunny. Planning ahead allows us to move seamlessly and continue capturing timeless imagery, no matter the conditions.

Golden Hour

If golden hour photos are important to you, they must be thoughtfully planned into your timeline. This brief window of light is limited and changes quickly, so flexibility is key. During this time, we may gently pull you away from conversations, family, or the celebration for a few minutes to capture these moments while the light is at its best.

Dream Photographs

We recommend building your mood board with your gown and veil in mind. Many inspirational images are created around specific design elements—such as dramatic trains, flowing veils, or layered textures. If these details differ from your own, the resulting imagery will naturally feel different. Aligning your vision with your styling allows us to create photographs that feel cohesive, intentional, and elevated.

Posing

If you’re feeling nervous about posing or unsure how it will feel in front of the camera, you’re not alone, and you’re in very good hands. Our approach is natural, guided, and effortless, focusing on gentle movement rather than stiff posing. We’ll guide you every step of the way, ensuring you look and feel your most beautiful while still feeling like yourselves.

With years of experience, we know how to find the most flattering light, angles, and moments. Allowing you to relax, trust the process, and simply enjoy being together.

This is your day. Let it unfold beautifully.

Receiving Line

If you’re planning a receiving line, please let us know ahead of time so we can be ready and positioned perfectly to capture it. A receiving line is a special moment where you greet each guest personally, often at the beginning of your reception. By planning in advance, we can ensure these interactions are photographed beautifully, without interrupting the flow of your day.

Hotel & Travel

Arrival & Directions

To ensure your wedding day runs smoothly, we kindly ask for clear addresses, parking information, and any other relevant details for each location. This allows us to plan efficiently, arrive on time, and focus entirely on capturing your day beautifully, without any unexpected delays. Thoughtful preparation behind the scenes makes for effortless, stress-free day.

Hotels

For weddings located more than four hours from Calgary, we kindly request hotel accommodations for the night before and the night of the wedding for myself and any additional team members (second shooter, content creator). For venues more than two hours away, we will need a hotel for the night of the wedding. This ensures we arrive rested, prepared, and fully focused on capturing your day beautifully, while keeping everything seamless and stress-free.

Destination

For destination weddings, we kindly ask that all flights be booked at least three months in advance and that all travel details be shared with us. Please provide hotel information ahead of time so we can be fully prepared and organized upon arrival, ready to capture your day beautifully.

Your sneak peek will be delivered within 30 days of your wedding, and the full gallery will be ready 90 days after the celebration. Engagement photos are delivered within two weeks of your shoot, allowing you to relive those special moments quickly.
